Early in their marriage and recent college grads, Nadine Silnutzer and Carl Glassman knew they wanted to own a Bed & Breakfast Inn where they could live and work together in a small town. In 1982 they jumped off their corporate career ladders and grabbed at the chance to purchase the Wedgwood Inn, which was located in their favorite Bucks County artists' community of New Hope, PA.
Prior to their purchase, The Wedgwood Inn was an old-fashioned rooming house with 6 bedrooms and shared hallway bathrooms. Some of the major upgrades Carl and Dinie added include all ensuite private bathrooms, fireplaces, balconies, WiFi, and whirlpool tubs. In 1985 they purchased the adjacent 1833 stone manor house that included a storybook Victorian carriage house too.
After months of extensive renovations, they opened it under the name Umpleby House Inn, doubling the size of their lodging rooms. In 2000, the 1870 Wedgwood House unveiled its newly constructed addition at the rear of the house. This added several Whirlpool Suites on the second floor, expanded the common areas and breakfast room, plus created meeting and event space.
Dinie and Carl always felt very blessed to run a B&B where they can combine their love of people, hospitality and food, with their mutual interests in the arts, historic preservation, gardening and antiquing. Their award-winning inn is nationally acclaimed for its consistency of excellence in lodging services: warm, friendly hospitality, convenient location, colorful gardens, knowledgeable innkeepers, great made-from-scratch food and clean, comfortable and affordable upscale accommodations.

New Hope was also an ideal place to raise their daughter, Jessica. She is often seen helping around the Inn on weekends and holidays as she pursues a professional career in social justice.
